Well we decided to spend another day here in Zortman. John gave us a tour and we had old times to talk about. Following are more pictures of this majestic place. Enjoy!
This is where Zortman all started. The following is a picture of Pete Zortman who started the gold prospecting in these mountains. Thus came the name of Zortman Montana! Population is about 30.
This is where Pete Zortman mined for minerals.
Another picture of Pete Zortmans mining area. John and I came up here at least once when we were kids.
One of the highest peaks around here!
A prospectors mine shaft.
This is where the tourists pan for gold. Is there really gold here? Yes!!!
This is Johns grandfathers old truck nestled in the side of the mountain.
In our tour mobile going up a steep trail.
It is just beautiful out here!
One of the radio towers. We are going up there.
A close up of Saddle Butte.
More beauty. We are at about 6000 feet!
A picture of Zortman from high up.
A zoomed in view of Zortman. That building with the garage door open is where we stayed. It is also a very nice motel.
And a really zoomed in picture of the Zortman Motel and Garage.
Those are buttes in the background and all the flat land between here and the Missouri River are called the Missouri Flats.
These are more buttes.
A good shot of the Missouri Flats.
You would not believe how good the air smells!
This was the very last prospectors cabin.
There is modern mineral mining going on here now.
These are the ABC, NBC, and CBS relay towers.
These are deer and sheep trails. They really stand out because there was a fire here.
Those are the Bearpaw mountains in the distance. Beyond those is the Belknap Indian Reservation.
Our Tourmobile.
A real tiny town at the foot of the mountains.
Last but not least is Zortman from way up high!
More pictures tomorrow. Stay tuned!
